Legalese

Within this document, you won’t find any obscure legal jargon. The creators and maintainers of Catacomb wrote this Privacy Policy so as to meet the legal requirements which govern the operation of websites. Thanks for reading, and we hope that Catacomb brings you the Light of Christ and of His Church.

Visitor data

When you visit this site, we collect anonymized data about your browsing habits, including which pages you visit; as well as information about your connection and device, including screen dimensions, browser, OS, and your IP address. Whether you connect to this site over a mobile network, or via a home, work, or private internet service provider, embedded in that connection is location data about your general region. If you connect from a network in Dallas, Texas, for example, we will see that connection; but we will not see your precise location, street address, name, or any other personally identifying information. This is just how the internet works. If you are not okay with this, you should either not use the internet, or consider self-hosting a VPN server at a trusted third-party location. By using this site, you consent to this reality of the internet.

Account data

When you sign up for an account, we receive your email address, and any other data about yourself that you submit as part of the signup process, or any other process pertaining to your usage of this site.

If at any time you would like us to remove your account data from our system, including your email address or any other info you submitted as part of the signup process, or any other process, please email privacy✠christendom✠email, where is @ and dot, respectively.

“Cookies”

After signing in to this site, our system will set data in your browser to distinguish you from other users; and, whenever you request a page on our site, while logged in, our system will check that data so that we can show you information pertinent to your account, such as your personalized notifications, and content feed. This browser data is commonly referred to as “cookies”, and without them, this site (or any other site, for that matter) would be unusable. So-called “cookies” are a part of how the web functions. By using this site as a logged-in user, you consent to our usage of “cookies” in your browser.

If at any time you would like us to delete your “cookie” data on our end, please email privacy✠christendom✠email, where is @ and dot, respectively. Please know, that by submitting a “cookie deletion” request, once we take the necessary action on our end, this will immediately log you out of your account; and, if you do not know your password, you will be unable to log back in until you reset your password using your account email address. That’s just the way “cookies” work. (Be advised also that when you receive this “password reset” email, the IP address from which you made the request will be included within that email.)

Data-sharing policy

Unless as explicitly stipulated in this Privacy Policy, we do not share your data with anyone, ever.

Your content is yours

Any content that you create or upload on this site, be it your text, graphics, audio, video, or documents (such as PDFs), will be the copyrighted intellectual property of the name under which you present yourself on our site. We make no claim of ownership or copyright over your content, or the content of any of our users. At any time, your content, which you own, can be either be amended, downloaded, or deleted by yourself. Note that if you decide to delete your content from our site, we do not retain a copy, and it will be gone forever. If you would like to export and download your content, please navigate to “Account >> Export Data”.

Media

When uploading files to this site (images, videos, documents, etc.), you should know that your files contain more information than what you can see on your screen with your eyes. For example, files in the JPEG format (.jpg, .jpeg), that are exported by the Camera App on iOS devices, contain embedded metadata about that image, which can potentially include the GPS coordinates of where that image was taken, among other sensitive data. This embedded metadata inherent in all file formats is collectively known as EXIF data. Before your files are shared on our site for public consumption by the internet, they are compressed and purged of all EXIF data by a third-party service, called ShortPixel (described below). The original non-compressed version is made publicly inaccessible, and stored privately by us on our servers, before it is sent to ShortPixel for processing. What this all means is that your potentially sensitive EXIF data, that you choose to share with us, is not only stored by us, it is shared with ShortPixel.

Embedded content

On our website you will likely encounter embedded content, a ubiquitous web technology that enables the displaying of content from another website. This embedded content from another website functions as if you had visited that other website directly. (This is just the way the web works.)

For example, if you view or interact with an embedded YouTube video on this site, it will be as if you are doing so on YouTube itself. We are not responsible for their, or any other embedded site’s, privacy practices; and you are encouraged to familiarize yourself with the privacy practices of any site you interact with, whether directly, or indirectly via embedded content.
